Funny Things Happen Down Under

1966 NZ Daybill

$75.00 NZD

A group of children in an Australian country town are trying to raise money to save their clubhouse. They make a batch of Christmas puddings to sell to passing motorists but they are a complete failure. Other children are bottling mineral water from a nearby mineral spring which all goes flat. This is poured out, along with the Christmas puddings, into a drain where their pet goat drinks the awful mixture. Shortly afterwards, the children notice that the normal white coat of their goat has changed into many colors. It is now, in fact, a rainbow colored goat, and the children realize that they have a major discovery on their hands.

This film was Olivia Newton-John’s first ever appearance on screen, prior to her lead roles in Tomorrow (1970) and Grease (1978).

This NZ printed daybill is exceptionally rare and a ‘must have’ piece for any fan of Howard Morrison, Olivia Newton-John or indeed early NZ/Australian cinema.

The main points of any note with this rare piece are the standard central fold line, single pin holes to the corners and one to the right central edge, scattered creasing and some marks (the worst are two light brown water marks on the left side – see additional image).

Please see the image and grading guide for more information.

The fold line, creases etc. could easily be addressed by a competent linen backer (see our list of recommended restorers on our Services page). However in all honesty, once pressed flat, this poster would still display very well.
